How to play
One answer. Seven chances.
Read the question, then pick one of four options. More than one option can be correct. A less obvious correct answer earns more points. No account is needed.
A round, step by step
- Choose Start a round. The first question and its 30-second timer appear together.
- Read the question and its scope note. It asks for one member of a defined collection.
- Pick just one option. Your first click submits it and ends the question. The options do not show their points before you choose. Keyboard users can focus an option and press Enter or Space.
- Read your result and the checked explanation. Choose Next question when ready; there is no time limit on reading feedback.
- After question seven, choose See results. Review your answers, share your score, or play again.
Two ways to play
Multiple choice is the default. Four shuffled options include at least one familiar correct answer, one rare correct answer, and one checked answer that does not fit. Multiple options can be correct, but you submit only one. A wrong option earns zero.
Recall challenge lets you recall an answer without seeing options. Choose it before starting, type one answer in English, and press Enter or Submit answer. Common checked aliases are accepted; arbitrary spelling mistakes may not be. An empty input does not use your attempt.
The modes have separate best scores. Replay keeps your current mode; refreshing returns to the default Multiple choice mode.
How the points work
Accepted answers earn one fixed editorial tier: 25 (Familiar), 50 (Less common), 75 (Uncommon), or 100 (Rare). Seven 100-point answers make a perfect 700. There is no speed bonus.
For example, two correct options can earn 25 and 100 points. You earn the score of the one you pick. Scores are editorial tiers, not live player statistics. The source lists support the facts, not the rarity ranking.
Five possible results
- Correct / Accepted
- Multiple choice shows Correct; Recall challenge shows Accepted. Your answer or its checked alias is listed for this question. You earn its fixed points.
- Incorrect / Does not fit
- Multiple choice shows Incorrect; Recall challenge shows Does not fit. The answer matches a checked exclusion. We explain why it fails the question’s condition.
- Not in our list
- In Recall challenge, we cannot match your text to an accepted answer or checked exclusion. It earns 0 points, but we have not marked it factually wrong. Multiple choice options are all checked in advance.
- Skipped
- You chose Skip before time ran out. This question earns 0 points.
- Time’s up
- The deadline arrived before a valid submission. This question earns 0 points.
The timer keeps its promise
The timer continues when you switch tabs, open the rules, or open an end-round confirmation. If you return after the deadline, only the current question times out; the next question waits for you.
Refreshing, leaving the page, or ending the round discards unfinished progress. A new question always starts with thirty seconds after you choose Next.
Practice, daily and topics
Unlimited mixed practice draws across all six subjects and excludes the previous mixed round. Topic practice selects seven unique questions from ten in the chosen subject, so adjacent topic rounds can overlap. Daily gives everyone the same seven questions and multiple-choice options on a given UTC day. Our archive begins at this site's launch; these are independent practice sets.
Hints
Recall offers an initial-letter clue, then a masked answer. Multiple choice can rule out one checked exclusion without revealing scores. Hints do not restart the timer. Using a hint marks the completed round as assisted and keeps its best score separate from unassisted play.
Records and replay
Only a completed round can update that mode’s best score. Multiple choice and Recall challenge are not compared with each other. Records belong to this browser, not an online account. You can turn off saving or clear records in On-device records.
Mixed rounds have one question from each category and an extra question from one category. Completed rounds and up to 50 recent results appear in My records. A daily completed on its own UTC day counts once toward your streak. Historical replays do not backfill it.
Sharing
Share your mode, total, accepted count, hint status and seven result squares, plus a link to replay the exact question order and options. Your typed answers are not included. This is asynchronous practice, without live rooms or verified competitive scores. If your browser cannot share or copy, select the score text manually.
